Live Mindplex Podcast with Peter Wang
Friday, January 26th at 11 am PST / 7 pm UTC
Peter will take a deep dive into what he means exactly when he recommends that we Radically Reinvent Our AI Northstars.
In order to realize this vision, he suggests that we need to articulate new Northstars instead of merely criticizing the flaws in the current systems:
By setting clear goals and envisioning a better future, we can guide our actions toward building a more inclusive and fruitful technological society.
Peter believes that Low-Code/No-Code platforms, often powered by LLMs, have the power to enable 96% of the population to go from ideation to creation with computers. This will result in a tremendous increase in creativity and the ability for more people to create and innovate.
One of the key benefits that Peter sees in this transformation is the ability for more people to engage in the creation process. He uses the analogy of 3D printing a Ferrari to illustrate the possibilities. Just as 3D printing allows for the production of complex objects without the need for specialized manufacturing knowledge, LLMs and other AI-driven NoCode/LowCode platforms would enable individuals to create sophisticated technological solutions without requiring an extensive technical background.
Check out this clip where Peter explains that we need to switch from simply criticizing the current system and move on to visioneering towards new North Stars that we could constantly redefine.
He envisions a world where everyone can easily create and assemble technology to their liking:
Instead of everyone sitting there, trying to figure how to pull pieces together, everyone would be 3d printing a Ferrari. he explains. So this world that were living in, that were about to enter into, if we order it right, if we structure it right, if we put the right visions in place we can actually guide to a much more interesting, much richer, and satisfying North Star for everyone So I think to do that, we need to articulate new North Stars instead of just criticizing whats wrong with the current structure .This is not a criticism of critique, because it is valuable to criticize whats wrong
Our chief challenge now is to switch from a mode of criticism to one of actually visioneering towards new North Stars and really concretizing those things.
Peter Wang is the founder and CEO of Anaconda and a founder of the PyData open-source data science movement. He is also a physicist, with a degree in physics from Cornell University, and an astronomer well known for his incredible DWeb camp starry night tours.
He is a long-time advocate for open-source software, starting with founding the Linux Users Group at Cornell in 1994. He serves on the board of the Center for Humane Technology and has been active in the Internet privacy and decentralization movement for many years.
Prior to founding Anaconda (formerly Continuum Analytics), Peter spent 15 years in software design and development across a broad range of areas, including 3D graphics, geophysics, large data simulation and visualization, financial risk modeling, and medical imaging.
As a creator of the PyData community and conferences, he devotes time and energy to growing the Python data science community and advocating for increasing data literacy worldwide.
