Mindplex Pubcast Episode 13: Unconditional Love, Time Travel, UFOs, the Multiverse and Everything

Join us this Thursday at 12pm PST/7pm UTC — we’ll have Julia Mossbridge joining us for the Live Pubcast, along with co-hosts Ben Goertzel, Lisa Rein and Desdemona Robot.

Episode 13 is the first episode of our second season.

Julia Mossbridge is an Affiliate Professor for the Dept. of Physics and Biophysics at the University of San Diego and is Co-founder & Treasurer of The Institute for Love and Time (TILT). Her work focuses on consciousness, how we think about consciousness, intuition, dreaming, and mental and informational time travel.

Julia is fascinated by what people are experiencing, or think they’re experiencing, without passing judgment on the validity of their experiences, whether they are experiencing what they perceive as a UFO encounter or connecting spiritually with a humanoid robot. She also does a lot of research on human-robot interaction dynamics and the psychological effects of those interactions (on AIs, robots and humans), including the “Loving AI” project, in collaboration with David Hanson, Ben Goertzel, and Sophia Robot, which involved observing and recording people’s reactions as Sofia led them through a guided meditation.

    As Ben explains:

“The Loving AI project came out of a broader attempt to think through sort of ‘what is unconditional love, among humans or in the universe?’ and then ‘how could you manifest that or encourage it to be manifested in humanoid robots and their interactions with people?’…

There was an interesting vibe and feeling among the people involved in the experiments, both the subjects communicating with the robot and being guided in meditation by the robot, and the operators who were sort of monitoring what the robot did on the laptop and so forth. And that was interesting in an unscientific way. It felt like the vibe of everyone there was sort of guiding the experiment to a cool outcome.”

Episode 13’s Featured Guest: Julia Mossbridge

Julia Mossbridge is an Affiliate Prof., Dept. of Physics and Biophysics at U. San Diego and Co-founder & Treasurer, The Institute for Love and Time (TILT). Her work focuses on consciousness — and how we think about consciousness — as well as understanding how intuition, dreaming, and mental and informational time travel can help us transcend our current limitations and better understand how our decisions are influenced by the world around us.

She also does a lot of research on human-robot interaction dynamics and the psychological effects of those interactions (on AIs, robots and humans), including the “Loving AI” project, which she collaborated on with Ben Goertzel, David Hanson and Grace’s sister Sophia.

Julia’s research looks at the physical and mental aspects of time travel, how sounds affect our mood and cognition, how unconditional love can help us transform and transcend, and also how AI can be used for decision-making, including inventing and patenting a physiologically based decision-making app called “Choice Compass.”
